And I had a simple plan, although without an explicit timeline :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Get into a pin hole photography workshop to see if I really liked the analogue process, before committing more resources into it.<\/li><li>Get started into B&amp;W photography. I chose medium format because I liked the negative size (6&#215;6).<\/li><li>Learn how to develop my own B&amp;W film at home.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that in processes that require some investment in tools or equipment such as&nbsp;developer tanks, trays, chemicals, enlargers, etc&nbsp; I prefer to take a workshop first before buying any equipment, should I decide that my time and resources should be spent elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, after becoming comfortable with developing my own B&amp;W film, it only became obvious what the next step should be : printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After taking a workshop on B&amp;W printing, I&#8217;ve decided to setup my own darkroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Darkroom<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"4640\" height=\"3480\" src=\"https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957.jpg 4640w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/20180901_135957-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption>Darkroom, right before use, with the chemicals already on the trays<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After deciding to make my own darkroom, several questions had to be answered before investing time and money (and its nothing new for someone who is looking into building one):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Location<ul><li>Must be easy to be made light tight<\/li><li>Must have room for the enlarger to be permanently assembled<\/li><li>Must have room to have 3 trays + assorted materials for enlargements<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Equipment (Bare minimum)<ul><li>An enlarger <ul><li>capable of handling 6&#215;6 negatives<\/li><li>capable of handling contrast filters<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Safe light<\/li><li>3 Trays<\/li><li>Bottles to keep the prepared solutions ready for use.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, my garage workshop had the space and was easy to be made light tight without much effort (only 1 small window, a vent and a door), with enough room to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Materials \/ Tools<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1792\" height=\"1344\" src=\"https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_20150805_182011.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_20150805_182011.jpg 1792w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_20150805_182011-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_20150805_182011-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jaerder.videmogroup.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IMG_20150805_182011-1x1.jpg 1w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 767px) 89vw, (max-width: 1000px) 54vw, (max-width: 1071px) 543px, 580px\" \/><figcaption>Supplies used. Unfortunately I was unable to obtain them locally.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the equipment, such as the trays and RC paper, I&#8217;ve already had from my pinhole experiments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the enlarger had to be sourced from a store 50 Kms away &#8211; I was unable to source it locally. <br>The multigrade filters was also purchased from the same store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was able to source an Meopta Opemus 6 enlarger, with an 80mm lens.<br>The Enlarger was in a very good state (it was brought&nbsp;a trusty store). Metal rails were cleaned and lubricated.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the safe light, I sourced a RGB Led strip locally.
